In response to ongoing violence between two taxi associations in the Giyani policing area of Mopani District, South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has taken decisive action. The conflict led to a violent incident on August 24, 2023, in which a 48-year-old taxi driver was allegedly attacked and injured by a rival group driving a Toyota Quantum.

During the attack, the victim stopped his vehicle, exited, and attempted to flee on foot but was pursued, further assaulted with stones, and shots were fired at him. The Provincial Taxi Violence Investigation Unit, in collaboration with the Public Order Police (POPS) Unit and community members, launched intensive investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the violent clashes.

This operation was conducted from Sunday, September 3, through the early hours of Monday, September 4, 2023. The police’s swift response aims to address the ongoing violence and restore peace in the region.
