On a Saturday afternoon, a fire incident at the renowned Sun City Resort in Pilanesberg sent alarm bells ringing, but swift action and a coordinated response ensured that the situation was brought under control.

The Sun City Resort confirmed the fire, which originated in the Cabanas kitchen earlier in the day, and reported that it had been successfully extinguished. The resort praised the quick response of its food and beverage staff and acknowledged the prompt action taken by Sun City’s fire and rescue services, which collectively ensured the situation was contained in less than an hour.

A statement from Sun City Resort read, “We are currently unclear on the source of the fire, and investigations will continue. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and guest accommodation remains unaffected.”

Videos capturing the incident quickly circulated on social media, evoking memories of the devastating storm that struck the area in 2018. During that catastrophic event, holidaymakers had to be evacuated from the Sun City Resort as severe storms and flash floods battered the North West province.

Sun International, the management company overseeing Sun City, revealed the extent of the damage caused by the 2018 storm. Numerous vehicles and buildings were impacted, leading to the evacuation and transportation of visitors from severely affected areas.

Specifically, Sun International noted that approximately 80 rooms at the Soho Hotel, 40 rooms at the Cabanas, 30 at the Cascades Hotel, 26 at the Vacation Club, and 20 at The Palace had incurred damage during the 2018 storm.

While the recent fire incident may have stirred memories of past challenges, Sun City Resort’s proactive response and the absence of injuries offer reassurance to both guests and the public. Investigations into the fire’s cause will continue as the resort remains committed to maintaining safety and a memorable experience for its visitors.
