In Brits, North West, authorities have initiated an inquest docket to investigate the unfortunate deaths of two children who passed away after consuming a meal consisting of pap and chicken feet.
The children, aged three and ten, reportedly ingested the meal on Friday, with their deaths declared on Saturday, November 18. According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in North West, a 32-year-old woman prepared the meal, which also included wheat, for the family at Regorogile in Sonop outside Brits on November 17, 2023.
Following the consumption of the meal by family members and three neighboring children, everyone retired to sleep. In the early hours of Saturday morning, the children, ranging from two to 17 years old, experienced illness and vomiting. An ambulance was summoned, but unfortunately, one child was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining individuals, including the woman responsible for cooking the meal, were transported to Brits Hospital for medical attention.
Tragically, the second child succumbed to the illness at the hospital, while two additional children were subsequently transferred to George Mukhari Hospital. To aid in the investigation, the police have gathered food samples for testing to determine the cause of this heartbreaking incident.
