The City of Cape Town is gearing up for its 54th Festive Lights Switch-On, set to commence this Sunday, on November 26, 2023, at the Grand Parade.
Considered a standout event on the city’s calendar, the Festive Lights Switch-On draws crowds of all ages from across the metropole, including an increasing number of international visitors. Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed anticipation for the event, stating, “It’s been a long year for many, and the winter cold and rains have added another dimension to the challenges that many of us face. I, for one, am looking forward to the official start of summer, which is heralded by the switch-on of our festive lights.”
According to the City of Cape Town’s statement, the festivities promise a stellar lineup of talent for this year’s Switch-On, featuring renowned artists such as award-winning musician Cassper Nyovest, Amapiano frontrunner Focalistic, Matthew Mole, the Ikamva Marimba Band, Alistair Izobell, Whitney April, Yonwaba Qetswana, Ricky Vani Frontline, Afrikaans band RAAF, The Tjommies, and The Rivertones. Actress Jill Levenberg and actor Maurice Paige, along with Carl Wastie, will guide the event.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, expressed excitement about the upcoming celebration, stating, “The stage is set for a stellar line-up of artists who will add to the excitement and magic of the event. This year’s switch-on is going to be one for the books, and I look forward to seeing locals and visitors come and celebrate the start of the festive season with us.”
