In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 6-year-old girl, reported missing on Wednesday, has been discovered deceased, her lifeless body concealed beneath a bed. The distressing incident unfolded in NU 13 Inyibiba near Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape.

Providing details on the tragic occurrence, provincial police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu revealed that the child had been missing since Wednesday. The community, receiving information about the disappearance, initiated a search that led them to a house in the same area.

“At about 20.30 pm on Thursday, police were summoned to a house in the same area as the community went to search for the child after receiving information,” explained Naidu. She further noted the community’s initial hostility towards the arriving police, necessitating backup. Upon entering the premises, law enforcement discovered a severely injured naked male outside, who later succumbed to his injuries.

“On searching the house, the body of the 6-year-old was found under the bed, wrapped in plastic,” added Naidu, indicating that the victim is suspected to have been subjected to sexual assault, with a post-mortem examination scheduled.

The police are currently conducting investigations into two cases of murder in relation to this tragic incident.

Expressing her sorrow, Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene highlighted the tragic timing of the event during the 16 Days of Activism against Violence on Women and Children. Mene emphasized the importance of vigilance and education in protecting children from predators while cautioning against vigilantism as a solution. She urged communities to collaborate in addressing the root causes of such heinous acts and conveyed deepest condolences to the grieving family of the innocent victim.
