Home Affairs Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, has been hospitalized for a routine medical procedure at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital, according to an announcement from the ministry.
While the nature of the procedure remains undisclosed, the ministry mentioned that the minister may be unavailable for an unspecified duration.
This is not the first time Dr. Motsoaledi has sought medical attention at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital. In 2015, he received treatment for pneumonia, and two years earlier, he was admitted for a planned surgical procedure. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) commended the former health minister for choosing a state hospital over a private facility during the previous admission.
“The EFF approves because one of our fundamental principles and policy positions is that all elected public representatives should use public services and institutions,” stated the EFF in a release at that time.
