In a disturbing incident on Friday, a 50-year-old woman and her 30-year-old daughter were left in critical condition when unidentified assailants opened fire on their white BMW X5 in the Sea Cow Lake area of Durban.
The targeted attack occurred on Inanda Road in Springfield Park shortly after 10 am. According to police reports, the suspects, traveling in a white Nissan NP200 bakkie, were positioned ahead of the victims before disembarking and unleashing gunfire on the two women.
Greenwood Park police have initiated an investigation, filing two counts of attempted murder, as the mother and daughter, identified as business partners, were en route from their residence to their business premises when the apparent drive-by shooting unfolded.
“The mother and her daughter, who are also business partners, were reportedly driving from their home to their business premises when they found themselves under heavy gunfire,” stated the police.
Upon the arrival of ALS Paramedics and Netcare 911 at the scene, the white SUV was discovered riddled with bullets. The victims had sustained gunshot wounds to their bodies and required manual ventilation before being transported to nearby Durban hospitals for urgent medical attention.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize both patients and placed them on manual ventilators before rushing them to nearby Durban hospitals for the urgent care that they required,” reported ALS Paramedics Medical Services.
The Greenwood Park police station is actively investigating the incident, treating it as two counts of attempted murder. The motive behind the targeted shooting remains under scrutiny as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.
