Authorities have apprehended four individuals suspected of being affiliated with a gang linked to the murder of a woman whose lifeless body, riddled with bullets, was discovered at a sports ground in Newlands East on Monday morning. The arrests resulted from ongoing operations conducted by SAPS Newlands detectives and the Hawks (Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations), targeting individuals believed to be involved in multiple cases of murder, robbery, and gang-related activities.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman, was found deceased in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked at the John Dory’s Sports ground in the Newlands East area, situated north of Durban. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that the woman had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and despite efforts, paramedics could not revive her, pronouncing her dead at the scene.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the KZN provincial police spokesperson, stated that the arrests marked progress in addressing gang-related criminal activities. The operation continues as police intensify efforts to bring perpetrators to justice.

Additionally, law enforcement is actively pursuing suspects involved in another drive-by shooting in the Newlands area earlier in the week, where three individuals were killed, and seven others sustained injuries. The incident is believed to be linked to taxi-violence, according to police sources.
