Chaos ensued at Cape Town International Airport on Sunday as Shahid Davids, accused of swindling individuals planning to perform Umrah, landed with Qatar Airways from Doha. Victims, who were allegedly defrauded thousands, gathered at the airport to confront Davids, seeking the return of their money. On December 27, 36 people intending to perform Umrah were stranded at the airport after their flights were canceled. Faizal Sayed, a TV talk show host and human rights activist, exposed Davids, emphasizing the need for legal action to protect the rights of those affected. Charges were filed against Davids, leading to his arrest by the Commercial Crime Unit. The 58-year-old suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court after being charged with theft under false pretenses.
