Curro Holdings has taken swift action by suspending a teacher at Curro Academy Protea Glen in Soweto, following accusations of racism. According to media reports, the teacher allegedly referred to three disruptive learners as monkeys.
The incident, which is believed to have occurred in the first term of the previous year, came to light last Friday, prompting Curro Holdings to launch an immediate investigation. The group clarified that no formal complaint was made at the time through any channels within the school or the Curro organization.
Upon becoming aware of the allegations on Friday, the executive head of the school promptly informed the Curro head office. In response, Curro Holdings suspended the teacher immediately and initiated a disciplinary inquiry in accordance with the group’s policies and procedures. The investigation is set to proceed following due process in the coming week.
Curro emphasized its commitment to providing counseling or other support to the affected learners after engaging with their parents. This incident follows last year’s condemnation by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) regarding racism allegations involving the institution’s executive head reportedly using derogatory language towards a fellow black woman teacher.
