The 60th edition of the Art in the Park exhibition was officially inaugurated at Volvo Cars Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday. Themed “Art Through the Decades – Unleash your creativity and explore Volvo’s fascinating journey,” the exhibition encourages learners to express their artistic and cultural creativity. Participants are granted artistic license to interpret the theme, depicting Volvo’s evolution from 1927 to 2024. The competition, organized by Pietermaritzburg Tourism, aims to channel positive thoughts among learners, showcasing their passion for art and awareness of Volvo’s historical journey.

Vaughn Marescia, the Director of Volvo Cars Pietermaritzburg and Hillcrest, expressed excitement about being part of the vibrant community celebration. He emphasized the dealership’s commitment to community engagement, local arts support, and contributing to the cultural richness of Pietermaritzburg. The event aligns with Volvo’s values of innovation and sustainability. The launch coincided with the arrival of Volvo’s smallest full-electric vehicle, the EX30.

The competition will have winners in three categories: Junior School, Senior School, and Children living with disabilities. Schools are invited to submit entries by March 25 at Publicity House, with students’ work due by March 29.

Art in the Park is scheduled to take place from May 1 to 5 at the KZN National Botanical Gardens in PMB, with varying hours throughout the week to accommodate visitors.
