In a dramatic turn of events, Calvin Naidoo, a well-known businessman from Gqeberha, has been successfully rescued by police following his kidnapping on July 19. Naidoo, 51, was abducted outside his workplace by five balaclava-clad criminals who forced him off the road.
The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation, commonly known as the Hawks, confirmed that a ransom demand had been made for Naidoo’s release. However, the specific amount remains undisclosed.
Swift and Skilled Response by Hawks
The newly appointed Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, lauded the Hawks for their exemplary efforts in securing Naidoo’s safe return. Mchunu highlighted the operation as a demonstration of the unwavering dedication and skill of South Africa’s law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
“This commendable operation underscores the unwavering dedication and skill of our law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of our citizens,” said Mchunu.
Nail-Biting Rescue Operation
Mchunu described the rescue operation as “nail-biting” and expressed relief over Naidoo’s safe return to his family. He emphasized that the successful rescue is a testament to the commitment and bravery of the Hawks and other collaborating law enforcement units.
“The successful rescue of Mr. Naidoo is a testament to the unwavering commitment and bravery of our law enforcement officers. The Hawks have once again demonstrated their ability to operate with precision and effectiveness in the face of complex criminal activities,” Mchunu stated.
Focus Shifts to Apprehending Kidnappers
With Naidoo safely back with his family, law enforcement agencies are now shifting their focus to apprehending the culprits. Mchunu assured that the kidnappers would be brought to justice.
“They must be assured that they will be dug out from any hole and brought to face the law,” he asserted.
Government’s Firm Stance Against Crime
Mchunu reiterated the government’s firm stance against crime, emphasizing that there will be no sanctuary for criminals in South Africa. He directed all police officers to maintain a strong grip on criminal activities, stressing that no crime is too small to be addressed.
“We are directing all police officers to tighten their grip on criminals. Criminals must know that we are resolute in our mission to bring them to justice. No crime is considered small as we have seen how petty crimes are becoming bigger crimes,” Mchunu concluded.
This successful operation highlights the effectiveness of South Africa’s law enforcement agencies and their commitment to maintaining public safety and security.
