GEORGE – Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile has expressed concerns over the potential for retaliatory violence following the murder of controversial businessman Mark Lifman, who was shot dead outside a shopping mall in George on Sunday.
Lifman, long linked to the Cape’s underworld (which he denied), was gunned down in what authorities fear could escalate tensions within the region’s criminal network. His alleged attackers were arrested and appeared in court on Tuesday.
Patekile stated that the motive for the killing remains unclear, but the police are increasing intelligence efforts and remaining vigilant. He warned that further arrests cannot be ruled out, noting that such cases often involve more individuals.
“We are upping our game on all fronts with our intelligence gathering,” Patekile said, emphasizing the need for caution to prevent further violence. The accused will return to court next Wednesday.
