Chidimma Adetshina, the Nigerian-South African model, captured the hearts of fans from both nations during her participation in the Miss Universe 2024 competition, held on November 17, 2024, at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The 73rd edition of the prestigious beauty pageant brought together fierce competition from 126 contestants worldwide, including 18 African countries such as Nigeria, Angola, and Egypt.

Adetshina made headlines earlier this year when she withdrew from the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant after reaching the final stage. The decision followed backlash from some South Africans who questioned her ties to the country. However, in a stunning twist, Adetshina went on to win the Miss Universe Nigeria title, representing her home state of Taraba.

As the grand finale of Miss Universe 2024 unfolded, fans from both Nigeria and South Africa rallied behind her, offering unwavering support throughout her journey. Adetshina’s journey has become a symbol of unity, with fans from across Africa coming together to celebrate her achievements.

Mitchel Ihueze, a former Miss Universe Nigeria, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram: “As you take the stage tonight, remember that regardless of the outcome, you are, and will always be, a queen. You’ve made Nigeria proud, and we couldn’t have asked for a better Miss Universe representative.”

Support for Adetshina was not limited to Nigerian fans. South African followers also expressed their admiration, with messages flooding in from across the continent. Egwu Onye, a dedicated fan, posted, “I am proud of you, Chidimma… all my votes are for you.” Khumali, another supporter, encouraged her by writing, “Wear the crown. You are born for this. May the Lord guide your steps and give you strength.”

Even beyond Nigeria and South Africa, Adetshina’s journey resonated with people from other African nations. Coco Petali, a Zimbabwean fan, shared her admiration for the beauty queen, saying, “I’m Zimbabwean, but Chichi’s journey touched me—maybe because xenophobia hits a little too close to home. She is a true star.”

Despite the challenges and controversies along the way, Chidimma Adetshina’s participation in Miss Universe 2024 has inspired fans across Africa and beyond, uniting them in support of a true African queen.
