In a coordinated operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Crime Intelligence, nine individuals were arrested in Ivory Park for attempting to kidnap a Benoni businessman. The operation also led to the seizure of three firearms and a vehicle linked to prior crimes. One suspect, recently released from prison, was fatally shot after attempting to flee during a confrontation with police. This marks a significant success in efforts to combat organized crime and abductions in the region.

Police Expose Counterfeit Hair Product Manufacturing Operation in Durban

Authorities uncovered an illegal hair product counterfeiting operation in a house in Pinetown, Durban. The operation was discovered after tracking stolen items to the property. The counterfeit products, which were sold with fake barcodes of a legitimate brand, were distributed across KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. Four people, including three foreign nationals, were arrested. The property owner, a prominent foreign national pastor, is linked to the network. This operation follows another recent bust of expired food products in Durban warehouses.

SARS Raids Shauwn Mkhize’s Home Over Tax Evasion

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) raided the Durban residence of businesswoman and socialite Shauwn Mkhize as part of an investigation into her outstanding tax debt. The search, authorized by a warrant, is part of a broader crackdown on tax evasion, particularly in the construction industry. Mkhize, who is also the owner of the Royal AM football club, is reportedly facing significant scrutiny for unpaid taxes. SARS has stressed the importance of compliance and issued a warning to others in the industry who may be evading taxes.
