Cape Town: Two 27-year-old suspects, believed to be romantically involved, are set to appear in the Paarl Magistrates Court on Valentine’s Day following their arrest for allegedly operating an illegal steroid manufacturing lab in Zanwyk Industrial Park on Old Paarl Road.
The duo was apprehended during a Hawks raid on Thursday, which uncovered powder, tablets, machines, and an oven used for the illicit production of steroids.
Investigation Timeline
According to Hawks spokesperson Siyabulela Vukubi, the investigation began in January 2023 when the Hawks received a tip-off about steroids being couriered from Franschhoek and distributed locally.
The suspicious parcels were intercepted and tested, with laboratory results confirming the presence of illegal substances. Subsequent investigations led to the identification and arrest of the two suspects.
Court Appearance
Both suspects are facing charges related to the illegal manufacturing and distribution of steroids. They are scheduled to appear in court on Friday to face the allegations.
This case highlights the Hawks’ ongoing crackdown on illegal drug manufacturing and distribution networks in the Western Cape.
