Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, in Johannesburg on Friday, as part of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, according to Turkish Foreign Ministry sources.

During their discussions, Fidan and Lamola explored ways to strengthen bilateral trade relations and mutual investment opportunities, particularly in key sectors such as the defense industry.

The ministers also exchanged views on global and regional issues, including the ongoing genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). South Africa had filed the case, accusing Israel of committing acts of genocide in Gaza, a move that Turkey has closely followed.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the broader geopolitical landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa, with both sides discussing potential areas of cooperation to promote stability and development in the region.

The meeting highlights Turkey’s expanding diplomatic engagement in Africa and its efforts to deepen ties with South Africa on economic, political, and security matters.
