Siboniso Duma, the KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC, has urged for the revival of rail freight networks in the province following a recent truck accident on the N3 highway. The truck overturned and lost its load on Monday morning, although fortunately, no injuries were reported.

In response to the incident, MEC Duma emphasized that shifting cargo transportation from road to rail could alleviate pressure on the province’s road networks and enhance safety for motorists and the public. The transition to rail would help reduce the risk of accidents and improve the overall efficiency of freight transportation, according to department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya.

The call for the revitalization of rail freight networks reflects ongoing concerns over road safety and the need for sustainable transportation alternatives in KwaZulu-Natal.
