Proteas opener Matthew Breetzke has etched his name into the history books by becoming the first South African batsman to register five consecutive half-centuries in One Day Internationals (ODIs), a milestone he described as “a blessing” after his latest innings.

The 25-year-old right-hander achieved the feat during South Africa’s clash against England, where he compiled another fluent knock to extend his remarkable run of form. His string of fifties has not only anchored the Proteas’ top order but also drawn comparisons with some of the game’s most consistent performers.

Speaking after the match, Breetzke expressed gratitude for his achievement. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity. To contribute consistently to the team is all I could ask for. Records are nice, but what matters is helping South Africa win,” he said.

Cricket South Africa hailed the young batsman’s accomplishment, calling it a reflection of his discipline and technical maturity. “To deliver at this level game after game shows his growth and hunger,” said head coach Rob Walter.

Breetzke’s rise has been a major boost for the Proteas’ batting lineup, which has often struggled for stability at the top in recent years. His ability to adapt to different conditions and bowlers has made him a reliable figure in the side.

Analysts say the milestone underlines South Africa’s promising depth in batting talent as the team builds towards upcoming ICC tournaments. His achievement has also sparked excitement among fans, many of whom have taken to social media to celebrate the new record.

With Breetzke’s purple patch showing no signs of slowing, the Proteas will be banking on his consistency as they continue their ODI campaign.
